  • Four days per week
  • Ten-hour shifts
  • Shift hours: 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the ASC Operating Room Manager and the direct supervision of the OR Charge Nurse, the Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for ensuring patient safety and high-quality nursing care throughout the intraoperative phase. This role requires anticipating the needs of the surgical team, maintaining a sterile and safe operating room environment, and coordinating care to support efficient surgical procedures. The RN functions as a circulator and, when qualified, as a scrub nurse, while assisting with the supervision of nonprofessional personnel in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities and Daily TasksPatient Safety and Advocacy
  • Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and operative site to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Monitor patients continuously for physiological and psychological status throughout the perioperative period
  • Position patients appropriately to provide surgical access while maximizing safety, comfort, and skin integrity
  • Plan, supervise, and assist with patient transfers and transport to prevent injury to patients and staff
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families regarding perioperative care
Intraoperative Nursing Care
  • Function as a circulator and, when qualified, as a scrub nurse based on procedural needs
  • Anticipate surgical team needs by assessing patient condition, procedure type, and surgeon preferences
  • Organize and coordinate supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for each case
  • Maintain efficiency and workflow in the operating room through prioritization and ongoing assessment
Sterile and Safe Environment Management
  • Establish and maintain a surgically clean environment by applying principles of antisepsis, disinfection, decontamination, sterilization, and environmental monitoring
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field by teaching, supervising, and monitoring aseptic technique
  • Monitor the operating room environment to ensure compliance with infection prevention and safety protocols
  • Implement safety procedures to protect patients and the healthcare team
Communication and Coordination
  • Coordinate support services needed during surgery through proactive communication with team members
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and support staff to ensure seamless intraoperative care
  • Communicate relevant patient and procedural information to recovery room personnel to ensure continuity of care
Documentation and Quality Improvement
  • Accurately document all nursing activities to provide a permanent medical record
  • Ensure documentation supports continuity of care, quality improvement initiatives, and professional accountability
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care by comparing patient outcomes to established goals
  • Participate in product and supply evaluations to assess safety, effectiveness, and cost efficiency
Emergency and Critical Response
  • Provide life-support interventions during emergency situations
  • Take appropriate action and direct or assist healthcare team members during intraoperative emergencies
Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active Registered Nurse license through the Washington State Department of Health
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within three months of hire
  • Minimum of two years of perioperative nursing experience
  • Demonstrated competency in circulating, with scrubbing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated achievement of performance standards for intraoperative nursing in accordance with AORN standards of practice
